10 Pivotal NWO Moments On WWE Network's WCW Monday Nitros

4. Hollywood Hogan's First Appearance (July 15th, 1996)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2DDx6CcvSE We saw Hulk Hogan turn heel and form the nWo at Bash At The Beach, but seeing Hogan on the July 15th, 1996 episode of Nitro was especially jarring for wrestling fans. Gone were the red and yellow colors we all knew so well. In their place was the black attire from head-to-toe that we would get to see from him during his time with the group. For all intents and purposes, he cut the same promo on Nitro that he did at Bash At The Beach eight days earlier, but now, he was cutting it for a bigger and broader audience. He explained that he turned because wrestling fans had the unmitigated gall to boo him after everything he said and did for the business, and for the children of the world. He mentioned that he wished he would have turned heel two years prior, which is when he first signed with WCW, and then talked about how the nWo was going to dominate pro wrestling. Fans had yet to get over the absolute shock of Hogan turning heel, and this appearance, after a week away from television, did nothing to help that. It was crazy to hear the boos he was receiving. It was crazy to see him dressed in anything other than his usual red and yellow colors. It was crazy to see him have such an attitude in his promo, even though he was keeping the "Well, you know something..." and multiple "brothers", like he always had. We had to get used to it, though, and WCW would begin to force it on us from that point on.
