On top of the Tag Team Championship bout, another match to look forward to at Backlash is the mouthful that is Alexa Bliss vs. Becky Lynch vs. Carmella vs. Naomi vs. Natalya vs. Nikki Bella for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

That lengthy list of participants makes this six-pack challenge sound like an exciting enough affair as it is, but there’s also the added significance of this being the first-ever SmackDown Women’s Championship match.

Now, you might argue that simply booking six people into a match isn’t quite as impressive as staging an eight-team tournament, but at least this showed a bit of variation as opposed to regurgitating that very same tournament format.

For the cast involved, which provides a nice blend of past, present and future stars, plus the novelty value of being the inaugural title bout, this makes for a positive in my eyes. Plus, there have been some interesting sub-plots building along the way…
