10 Positives Heading Into WWE Backlash 2016

Rather than building the six-pack challenge on the relatively basic concept of “every woman for herself”, the writers have attempted to create some more compelling sub-stories to add layers to the narrative. And by and large, I’d say they’ve succeeded.

Becky Lynch and Alexa Bliss have traded wins in an ongoing battle for momentum, while Naomi’s radically adjusted her gimmick to give herself a new lease of life. The most notable example though, has surely been Carmella’s heel turn and her subsequent pursuit of Nikki Bella.

Since turning to the dark side, Carmella’s been arguably more entertaining than ever, relentlessly pursuing the recently-returned and vastly more-seasoned Nikki Bella.

Is it personal? Is she just going after the best in a bid to prove herself? Who knows just yet, but the fact that we’re even asking these questions shows that someone backstage has done a good job, not to mention the great work that Carmella’s been delivering herself.

Currently, this may just be a sub-plot in that six-pack challenge, but expect it to morph into something more significant both at Backlash and in the weeks that follow.
