10 Positives Heading Into WWE SummerSlam 2016

5. Better Use Of Roman Reigns

And Eva Marie isn’t the only one who’s benefited from her talents being better utilised by the writers.

Since the decision to remove Roman Reigns from his perpetual main event spot, he’s instead found himself competing in the more sheltered surroundings of a mid-card feud, challenging Rusev for the United States Championship.

And while it may only be early doors in this one, I think it’s fair to say that it’s a strategy that seems to be working quite nicely.

Rather than being thrust into heavily-scripted promos and forced to recite lines for minutes on end, Roman’s been carrying himself far more naturally, as was apparent in his wedding cake segment with Rusev just last week.

Reigns was confident, calm, charismatic, and a thousand times more watchable than he had been previously. Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but to me it seems like since his demotion to the mid-card, he’s been afforded more freedom to simply be himself. And in the few examples we’ve seen so far, it’s a vast improvement on his “suffering succotash” and “tater tots” work.
