...Kota Ibushi.

The Golden Star is the biggest name taking part in the tournament, and happens to be the centre of WWE's promotion of the Classic on WWE.com. All of the 32 men involved in the tournament can be considered a great catch by WWE, but Ibushi is the one that comes across as a major coup.

Ibushi was in the crowd at NXT TakeOver: Dallas, but even then there was all sorts of speculation as to whether he would end up involved with WWE in any way. Well, here we are.

Before injury derailed him a little bit and led to him leaving his dual contracts with NJPW and DDT in Japan, Kota Ibushi was on his way to becoming a true Japanese wrestling superstar. Heck, maybe he was there already.

New Japan had been ruled by the big three of Shinsuke Nakamura, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada for a number of years, but Ibushi (along with AJ Styles) seemed poised to turn that Big Three into a Big Five.

Injury stopped him, unfortunately, but that may very well have been a blessing in disguise. Ibushi slowed down his insane schedule and became a freelancer, a decision which has led to him being the marquee name in the WWE Cruiserweight Classic.

Only a brave man would bet against him winning the whole thing.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
