10 PPV Quality Wrestling Matches Given Away On Weekly Television In 2020
7. Jon Moxley Vs. Darby Allin (AEW World Title Match) - AEW Dynamite, 5 August
In 2019, All Elite Wrestling had five pay-per-views. In 2020, after Fyter Fest and Fight For The Fallen took place on Dynamite, that number dropped to four. This is an effective way for AEW to ensure their PPV's feel special and exciting. It also means that AEW's championships are occasionally defended on Wednesday nights.
This August, on AEW Dynamite, Jon Moxley defended his World Championship against Darby Allin and the match was an absolute barn burner. These two wrestlers make for an exciting dynamic in the ring, as they are popular amongst fans, extremely hard hitting, and both possess a "win at all costs" mentality.
This was a back and forth affair, with neither wrestler willing to give the other an inch. After Moxley hit a German Suplex from the top turnbuckle, both men were left lying on the canvas. That's when Wardlow made his way down the ramp and distracted the official long enough for MJF to sneak into the ring and clock Moxley with the championship belt.
Seizing the opportunity, Allin made his way to the top turnbuckle and hit a Coffin Drop. Moxley was somehow able to kick out. Busted open and exhausted, Moxley reversed another Coffin Drop into a rear naked choke, before hitting Allin with a Gotch-style piledriver and a Paradigm Shift to pick up the win.
It's only a matter of time before Allin is back in the world title picture and if Moxley is still champion, don't expect to get this re-match for free on Dynamite.
