10 Pro Wrestlers Accused Of Heinous Crimes

1. Chris Benoit

There's not much that can be said about the Benoit double murder-suicide that hasn't already been belabored. On Sunday, June 24, 2007, Chris Benoit missed WWE's Vengeance Pay-Per-View, stating that his wife, Nancy, and son, Daniel, were sick. Just prior to Raw the following night, all three were found dead of asphyxiation. According to the authorities' reports, Benoit strangled Nancy with a cord on Friday, suffocated Daniel sometime on Friday or Saturday, and hanged himself with an exercise machine on Sunday.

To say that it was a stunning, horrifying time to be following wrestling was an understatement. The media frenzy regarding the killings was nonstop, and it seemed like every day, new lurid and terrifying details would emerge. Wrestlers grasped at straws, trying to find some way to explain the behavior of a man whom they considered a trusted friend. Some fans tried to bury their heads in the sand, thinking that Benoit was set up.

More than seven years later, WWE has all but erased Benoit from their history. Still, none of us will ever forget what an inexplicable and bone-chilling crime the man committed -- the most heinous in wrestling history.
