10 Questions Stone Cold Must Ask Dean Ambrose On His WWE Podcast

9. What Advice Do You Have For Deathmatch Workers On The Indies?

As already mentioned, Ambrose's background in ultraviolent deathmatches makes him pretty unique as far as today's WWE goes, and it's something that the company has chosen not to acknowledge. While Mick Foley's past experience with thumbtacks, explosives, and broken glass was routinely brought up during the Attitude Era, today's WWE is less proud of Ambrose's résumé.

Still "The Lunatic Fringe" has a body of work to his credit that would make the most seasoned wrestling fans cringe. He nearly lost a nipple in a no disqualification match with Jimmy Jacobs at Dragon Gate USA's Uprising show, and a match against Drake Younger (currently NXT referee Drake Wuertz) in Germany saw the future WWE World Champion get tangled in barbed wire so badly that he needed to be cut loose with shears.

What advice does Ambrose have for the up-and-comers who are wrestling those kinds of matches today? Does he still feel that deathmatches are a valid form of wrestling expression, or has the premature wear and tear to which those bouts undoubtedly subjected his body led him to the conclusion that it's just not worth it? Is there a way to be safer about it, or should deathmatch workers not even bust out the thumbtacks in the first place?
