10 Quick Fixes For WWE In 2018
4. Introduce A Contendership Ladder On SmackDown
This week's SmackDown had WWE Champ AJ Styles in a throwaway rematch from Tribute To The Troops. Seriously, that's what his 6-man tag effort alongside Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura was. It was just another excuse to send everyone home happy with a babyface win over Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and Jinder Mahal.
At no point did WWE attempt to build a new challenger for Styles and his title. Contrast that with the Universal Title Triple Threat pitting Brock Lesnar against Kane and Braun Strowman set up recently on Raw and it becomes obvious that SmackDown's title scene needs a little love. It's time to set up a contendership ladder, one which focuses on the best wrestlers.
If Raw has the monsters beating the hell out of one another, then SmackDown (with someone like AJ as champ) needs something different to that. So, after putting in-ring workhorses like Joe and Bálor on the brand, WWE could implement a system that rewards great matches and slowly establishes each contender in a logical way.
