10 Quick Fixes To Improve WWE

6. Add A Babyface Authority Figure

If you're a WWE fan, when you financially support the product don't you want to think your money isn't going to evil, manipulative people? For the past 17 years, that's just where it goes, well, in terms of the storyline at least. Now at Survivor Series, The Authority may go away, but I'm not going to count on it. Even if they do leave, it probably won't be long before the next bad guy takes over. Vince McMahon, Eric Bischoff, Vickie Guerrero, Triple H, Stephanie and others have run the concept of an evil authority figure into the ground time and time again. It's not interesting anymore, and it doesn't make sense. If Hunter and the gang really hated Cena so much why don't they just fire him, or make him fight the entire roster in a both arms tied behind the back match every week (well, Cena probably would find a way to still win)? What WWE needs is a Jack Tunney type figure. He was the storyline president of the WWF during the mid-80s to the mid-90s. He'd show up on rare occasions, make a big announcement and go away. He re-emerge months later, so the wrestlers could take the spotlight, which is where it belongs. WWE has a ton of ex-wrestlers who could be great in that role (Hulk Hogan for a more colorful pick, or Bret Hart or Ricky Steamboat for a straight laced guy), or they could hire an actor to fill the part. Either way, the evil boss has to go. It worked for a couple years in the late 90s and it hasn't worked since. Perhaps there is no other trope in all of wrestling that is more played out and tired than bad people in power doing bad things to their own roster.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
