10 Rare Times Wrestlers Were Self-Aware

7. Triple H, Again

In a second, less full-on self-introspection, it was announced following WrestleMania 36 that WWE was to celebrate the 25th "anniversary" of Triple H's WWE career.

It was a swerve - it turned out to be a roast of sorts - but as gentle as it was, it was as close as we'll ever get to Triple admitting his deeply ironic career as a B+ player. As part of the skit, WWE ran a reel of the "not so good" D-Generation X bits. Good! Possibly an acknowledgement that the dumb jock act became pretty pathetic around 2006?

No. Turns out that much like every Hollywood actor ever, Triple H and Shawn Michaels sometimes had to do retakes. That sh*t was fire when they stopped pissing themselves laughing about how fire it was, of course!

"Crickets," Shawn Michaels surmised, as the sound effect crept over the PA to draw the show to a close. "The story of your career."

This was less generic self-deprecating fare, more an insult so cutting that, ironically, it couldn't dilute the heroin it was to hear after so, so many years of methodical slogs.

That cliched novelty effect didn't sound unlike every other match he worked at WrestleMania.
