10 Real-Life Wrestling Feuds That Played Out In Public
1. Bret Hart Vs. Shawn Michaels
Like Matt and Edge, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels waged a large part of their rivalry in front of the WWE cameras, using fan-fuelled rumours of a backstage rift to help put new eyes on the Monday Night Raw product.
The headline moment came on an episode in mid-1997, when HBK cheekily made reference to Bret having "Sunny Days" and, in so doing, apparently put strain on his Canadian counterpart's real-life marriage.
That's not very nice, although The Hitman did get his own back (at least a little bit) in a series of shoot interviews he conducted years later. In one, for instance, he suggested that Michaels' primadonna attitude backstage had stemmed from insecurity about his own wrestling ability.
These days, the line is that they've now put their differences behind them for good, although given everything that went on between them, that is probably a bit of a stretch. At best, they've just realised airing their dirty laundry in public isn't a great look.
