10 Reasons AEW Fans Should Be Worried
2. Cody Rhodes’ WWE Run
Many people assumed that a returning Cody would soon be normalised by the WWE system, quickly becoming one of the rank and file. He was fully expected to cut nonsensical promos full of unlikely verbiage and go 50/50 in overlong, repetitive feuds.
Instead, so far at least, WWE have presented the younger Rhodes brother as a legitimate star. “The American Nightmare” has retained his AEW character complete with flashy jackets and his old entrance music. He’s also delivered three standout PLE bangers against Seth Rollins. Plus, his promos, while apparently just as scripted as most WWE content, have retained his fire, spirit and cadence. Maybe it helps WWE’s writers to have plenty of early Dynamite promos to draw inspiration from?
The choice between AEW and WWE has often been seen as that of art versus commerce. WWE might offer you a big money contract, but you sacrifice the chance to play the best version of yourself or wrestle great, expressive matches. Any disgruntled talent on the AEW roster might be taking note of Cody’s current run and wondering if maybe, after all, they can have both?
