The Shield were arguably the most dominant faction in WWE history. For nearly two years, Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns ran over every Superstar put in front of them and they did not slow down at any point during their time together. Their run saw them face off against and take down, established stars like John Cena, The Rock, and The Undertaker. CM Punk was another name on that list and it was his work against The Shield in December of 2013 that reminded fans of just how good The Best in the World was when pushed to his limits in the ring. This was perhaps the finest example of the present meeting the future, of a current top guy working hard to give the rub to future top guys. However, they barely scraped the tip of the iceberg with their rivalry. Before fans could say "one more match," Punk was walking out of WWE. The question is, how much could he have done for the individual members of The Shield, whether competing with them or against them, had he stayed? The fact is that Ambrose is possibly on his way to great heights in the company and that rise could have been paired with Punk, possibly even against him. How much stronger would Dean look right now if he had went to war with Punk? The same could be asked of Seth and even Roman. The Shield could very well dominate individually in the company for years to come and the stories they could have told with Punk along the way would have been truly epic.
