Much of the talk centering on CM Punk during the days following his exit from WWE was his physical well being. This came as no surprise to fans of course, as The Best in the World maintained a very hectic schedule as WWE champion and his ring style was both aggressive and intense. Of course the latter has always been the case for the majority of WWE Superstars and pro wrestlers in general. So while some fans likely understood that Punk's body was getting worn out from constantly going to war in the ring, the fact was it was his job and he should have just sucked it up, right? However Punk is straight-edge and that means that even the most uncomfortable days are not covered up by drugs or alcohol. When he hurts, he hurts and he does not self-medicate in order to get past the pain. With that being the case, then his desire to rest and recuperate surely made perfect sense to not only the company but to the fans as well. That did not necessarily mean that he had to walk away from WWE. He could have been used in a non-wrestling role, similar to Stone Cold Steve Austin, when The Texas Rattlesnake played co-General Manager next to Eric Bischoff. If Punk had merely wanted a break then that could have been arranged and if he wanted to just heal up then he could have stayed around, stayed on the mic and entertained as only he could. Punk could have read the phone book on Monday Night Raw and still pop the crowd; his energy and enthusiasm would have been enough to keep him relevant even if he had not been in the ring.
