The WWE that CM Punk walked out on was very different from the WWE of today. The company underwent a significant corporate change when they opted to kill off pay per view in favour of digital distribution this past February. The launch of the WWE Network was a game changer for everyone. It might very well have influenced Punk's decision to walk. The mystery over payout bonuses in regards to the Network was a gripe for the whole locker room. In the past it was easy to distribute bonuses based off of pay per view sales in relation to show headliners. But how would bonuses be assigned off of a steady overall Network subscription number? It's a question that we are still wondering! Punk is possibly remaining away from the company because of this issue. The wrestlers have been marginalised, while the corporate fat-cats are greedily seeing dollar signs (which ironically the Network so far hasn't brought). Punk is the self styled 'voice of the voiceless', he sees himself as almost a militant union man. His exit and sitting on the picket line is an expression of his disgust at WWE's changes. Going back would betray his moral high ground.
