10 Reasons NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 10 Will Be 2016's Best Show
4. AJ Styles Is Actually Wrestling
In case you haven't heard, AJ Styles has probably been the best performer in the world this year. He's also been battling a horrible back injury (a herniated disc in his lower back) that was originally expected to prevent him from wrestling at Wrestle Kingdom (and ROH Final Battle a few weeks back). Unfortunately for those who originally evaluated Styles' injury, they didn't realize they were diagnosing AJ freaking Styles. In a year where he has put on some of the best matches of his career, absolutely nothing was going to prevent Styles from wrestling one of the most popular wrestlers in Japan at the biggest event of the year in Japan. Nakamura vs. AJ is set to blow the roof off the Tokyo Dome. Styles spent almost half of 2015 as the face of NJPW, holding the IWGP Heavyweight Title. He won the belt from Hiroshi Tanahashi (who headlined Wrestle Kingdom 9 as champion) in February, and he lost the strap to Kazuchika Okada in July. In November, the leader of the Bullet Club eventually challenged Nakamura to a Intercontinental Championship match for Wrestle Kingdom as wrestling fans around the world screamed in excitement. That excitement soon became nervous tension as Styles was removed from November's NJPW World Tag League Tournament due to his back injury. Never to fear, Styles spoke out in mid December to announce he would in fact compete at Wrestle Kingdom. Will the injury Styles is fighting through prevent him from having the match with Nakamura that everyone has dreamed about for the last two months? If the rest of his performances this year are any indication, you can expect Styles to come through with a memorable outing, and Nakamura is sure to bring "A" game.
