10 Reasons Randy Orton Is "Mr. Survivor Series"
2. Survivor Series 2012
Alrighty then, here we find ourselves in a real fustercluck in terms of buildups for Survivor Series tag matches. Originally, this match was set to feature Mick Foley's team against a heel team led by WWE Champion CM Punk. This made sense, as Punk and Foley had been in a spat in the weeks prior on television. However, Punk was then made to defend his title against Ryback and John Cena in the main event, meaning Dolph Ziggler was now the team captain of the heel squad. So basically, this was yet another arbitrary heel vs. face Survivor Series match, and Mick Foley was ringside for the faces because... well, just because.
Despite the thrown-together nature of the match, like many Survivor Series tags that precede it, this still managed to be quite a heated, exciting affair, and I'll remind you, this was a match where David Otunga was wrestling. By this point, it was clear WWE was using Randy's reputation at Survivor Series as a way of getting other guys over, as the commentators talked up his accomplishments in a big way.
In the end, Orton managed to be the one left standing against hot up-and-comer Dolph Ziggler, and he ultimately succumbed to a superkick. Another loss for Orton, but still a highlight of his high profile at the event.
