WWE’s women have been given plenty of opportunities to shine lately. Though last year’s “Divas Revolution” got off to a stuttering start, the likes of Sasha Banks, Charlotte, and Becky Lynch have helped rebuild women’s wrestling in WWE. The three are now among the company’s most popular performers, and though the Brand Split has separated them, they’re ideal cornerstones for the division’s future.

Sasha and Charlotte have engaged in an epic rivalry that stretches all the way back to their NXT days. The Boss’ Women’s Title victory the night after Battleground was a hugely cathartic moment not just for her, but for the fans who’ve followed her career since its inception. There were times when it felt like Charlotte’s stranglehold on the belt was unbreakable, and in defeating such a dominant champion, Banks became a megastar.

The matches have been great, but most have had an asterisk attached. As good as ‘Mania’s triple threat was, it ended with unnecessary Ric Flair interference, and Charlotte’s more recent matches have mostly been marred by Dana Brooke’s awkward presence.

There was little to complain about in Charlotte and Sasha’s Raw match, but it took place on weekly television, not the grand stage it deserved. Now, however, the women have a chance to shine on one of the biggest shows of the year, without any outside interference. They’ve got a great opportunity to produce the kind of world class match-up fans know they’re capable of producing without any need for controversy. Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte should be the perfect showcase of WWE’s outstanding female talents, and a glowing beacon for the division’s bright future.
