Now most people would consider Monday Night Raw and to an extent Friday Night Smackdown to be the mountain top wrestlers strive to appear at the top of. Its the main roster, the big leagues, and everything else is a stepping stone to that promise land. Its funny because the A and B shows should really aspire to book the main roster Divas as well as the developmental brand books its women. If you only watch Raw and Smackdown, itll be hard to believe that on NXT, the women dont fight over who stole the others boyfriend, or need Jerry Springer to make an appearance to solve petty and sophomoric family drama. On NXT the ladies fight over stuff like championships and a desire to be the best. One of the best matches from the first NXT Takeover featured Natalya vs. Charlotte for the vacant NXT Womens Title. The match was the culmination of a tournament to crown a new Champion, and they played up that the bout featured the clash of two storied wrestling families, the Harts and the Flairs. The women even had Bret Hart and Ric Flair in their respective corners. They made the women on NXT serious competitors with legacies to uphold. At Takeover 2, Charlotte defends her championship against the plucky underdog Bayley. Charlotte is the next big thing in the Divas division and the daughter of wrestling royalty, while Bayley is a fan girl that grew up idolizing people like Charlottes father and is now living what people might have called an impossible dream. Throw in the fact that Charlotte betrayed her former friend Bayley to join the Beautiful Fierce Females (Summer Rae & Sasha Banks), and you have a feud that is way more enthralling than anything the women on the main roster are doing. Its wrestling royalty vs. the working class fan girl, its a woman that was born to be champion vs. a girl who only dreamed she could be, and its former friends settling their differences in the ring with the championship at stake. You couldnt dream of seeing something this compelling with the main roster Divas.
