Just a few months following Spring Stampede over the in the WWF, that company would present the annual King Of The Ring pay-per-view. A show-long tournament was the dominant aspect, leading to the establishment of Kurt Angle as a new top contender. If the WWF were looking for a template to avoid, they could have watched the WCW show.

Both the WCW Tag-Team and United States Titles were set to be decided in different tournaments on the same event. This meant that a plethora of matches would be jam-packed onto the show, along with all the other issues which were set to be contested. All in all, Spring Stampede hosted 14 matches, at least 6/7 too many.

8 guys entered the US Title hunt, whilst 4 teams were set to duke it out for the right to be called WCW Tag-Team Champions. Talk about over-egging the pudding, this was ridiculous.

There was too much going on, and many of the tournament matches weren't even that enticing. The Wall vs. Scott Steiner, for example, lasted a grand total of 4 minutes. Hardly enough time for both men to tell a story.
