10 Reasons Why Roman Reigns Is ‘Best For Business’

9. He€™s Not The First Football Player To Cross Over To Pro Wrestling...

Many wrestling purists seem to have a problem with Roman Reigns because he didn€™t live in the back seat of a crappy hand-me-down car, making five Dollars a night for a decade before reaching the big time. These arguments smack of elitism, jealousy and modern day myth making. Some people get a lucky break, others don€™t. Get over it. Maybe Reigns doesn€™t love the business as much as some others do. Maybe he hasn€™t sacrificed as much, or paid his dues for it as some others have. But did Hulk Hogan? Did Bill Goldberg? Did Brock Lesnar? Besides, football players getting into wrestling is as old as the hills. The Rock turned to his family trade after being spat out of the Canadian Football League. Vader became a multi-time World Champion only after injury ended his fledgling football career. Wahoo McDaniel (ask your dad) would switch between football and wrestling; turning to whichever sport made him the most money. Hell, even €˜Superstar€™ Billy Graham spent some time as an Oakland Raider... In fact, WWE Hall of Famer Junk Yard Dog was a former Green Bay Packer who could barely wrestle at all, but we still love him, don€™t we? Goldberg, for his part, was a horrible wrestler, pushed to the top light-years before he was ready for it, but he was still WCW€™s last great drawing card €“ and probably includes among his fanbase many of the same people that are slagging Roman Reigns off today. Basically, the description of €˜former football player who got into wrestling for the money€™ applies to about 3 out of every 5 randomly selected pro wrestlers €“ and it always has.

I am a professional author and lifelong comic books/pro wrestling fan. I also work as a journalist as well as writing comic books (I also draw), screenplays, stage plays, songs and prose fiction. I don't generally read or reply to comments here on What Culture (too many trolls!), but if you follow my Twitter (@heyquicksilver), I'll talk to you all day long! If you are interested in reading more of my stuff, you can find it on http://quicksilverstories.weebly.com/ (my personal site, which has other wrestling/comics/pop culture stuff on it). I also write for FLiCK http://www.flickonline.co.uk/flicktion, which is the best place to read my fiction work. Oh yeah - I'm about to become a Dad for the first time, so if my stuff seems more sentimental than usual - blame it on that! Finally, I sincerely appreciate every single read I get. So if you're reading this, thank you, you've made me feel like Shakespeare for a day! (see what I mean?) Latcho Drom, - CQ
