Few, if any, pro wrestlers in the modern era have gotten over in a big way purely because of their wrestling skills. Don€™t argue. That€™s a fact. If wrestling were decided purely on in-ring talent, then Dean Malenko and John Cena could effectively swap Championship records, but it ain€™t gonna happen, people. Sure, a wrestler gets more credibility with so-called €˜real€™ wrestling fans by doing triple somersaults in disused Midwestern barns in front of 200 people every night, but such a career does not a WWE superstar make. Traditionally, WWE exists to sell Pay Per Views, tickets and merchandise, lots and lots of merchandise. As a result, WWE€™s top hand needs to be fresh faced, good looking and chock full of movie star potential. Marketing wise, the company that once booked the now venerated (but, I€™m sorry, DREADFUL) Ultimate Warrior to World Championship status cannot, and should not, be expected to ignore him just because his ring work is limited.
