10 Reasons WWE Doesn't Attract New Fans

1. Obsession With The Past

It’s far from a new complaint, but WWE’s obsession with its history is starting to work to its detriment. Not only is allowing the likes of Goldberg to squash new stars hurting those wrestlers, it’s turning away from potential fans. Because guess what? If you started watching WWE in the last five years you don’t give a hoot about Goldberg; he’s just an old bloke who has two-minute matches.

It’s not just Goldberg either, you could extend this to more prominent members of the roster. What does Vince McMahon mean to new fans? Or Shane for that fact? Does Undertaker mean as much to a young fan as Bayley? Probably not.

WWE has always placed its legends on a pedestal. They’re elevated above all else, and it doesn’t matter if they are forty or sixty, they are probably going to come back and be made to look good. However, if you are trying to bring new fans into the fold that’s just not going to work. They don’t care about Goldberg’s streak or the Montreal Screwjob, they care about the people that they’ve been watching every week. Legends can add a bit of seasoning to a show, but they shouldn’t be the whole meal.
