10 Reasons WWE WrestleMania 39 Weekend Absolutely SUCKED
1. Vince Is Back In Charge
In an early issue of Warren Ellis' seminal Transmetropolitan, we learn that protagonist Spider Jerusalem once wrote a newspaper article that was simply the word "F**k" repeated 8000 times.
When the news broke on Monday that Vince was back in power, it's safe to say many a wrestling journalist sympathised with Spider's outburst.
Vince McMahon sleazing his way back to the top of the WWE food chain is the worst possible development for the company. Not just in a moral sense - although we don't expect the billionaires club at Endeavor to realistically give a damn about trifles such as "sexual harassment" and "illicit hush money" - but it makes no sense from a business perspective either.
McMahon is objectively horrendous for the WWE. He's a detriment to morale and the quality of the shows, and has a proven track record of spending the company's money as his own. For WWE to grow it has to remove Vince from power and send him into retirement.
WWE could have sent a powerful message to the competition by delivering a blow-away WrestleMania weekend. Instead, they only sent the message that they're still among the most clueless companies in America.
