9. CM Punk Vs. Ryback - Hell In A Cell 2012
1092701Believe it or not, former WWE superstar Ryback can actually lay claim to having popped a buyrate for a "B" show, and it's all thanks to some strong booking. In 2012, the former Skip Sheffield was reintroduced as the jobber-squashing goliath, and by the time he had moved on to beating name stars, he had gotten a bit of traction with the fans.
Meanwhile, the scheming CM Punk was nearly a year into his history-making reign as WWE World Champion, and there was a problem. John Cena - whom Punk had fought to a draw at Night of Champions - was meant to get a Hell in a Cell rematch, but the star's arm was injured. It was touch and go as to whether he would be able to compete, but ultimately he wasn't, and Ryback was given the spot.
With "The Big Guy" made to look dominant heading into the bout, many thought his undefeated streak would continue and he'd capture gold. Others thought that CM Punk, on his way to his one-year anniversary and then, a showdown with The Rock, couldn't be stopped. The fact that the bout would be a Hell in a Cell match meant that there would be no non-finish, and something had to give.
