After Sting's loss at WrestleMania 31, the former icon of WCW stepped away from the ring. Fans were unsure if he'd ever compete again, and when rumors that he was going to return for SummerSlam failed to materialize, it was hard to help but wonder if his match was simply a one-and-done.

The evening after SummerSlam, though, Sting returned in theatrical fashion. At the PPV, WWE World Champion Seth Rollins had defeated United States Champion John Cena to claim both belts, and in return, The Authority had promised him his very own bronze statue. When they pulled the blanket off the sculpture, though, Sting was standing underneath. He attacked Rollins before holding up the WWE World Championship.

Though Sting would ultimately not claim the belt, the weeks that followed were a novelty in that they represented his only run at the title. Whether he was destroying Rollins's actual statue or tagging with John Cena on Raw, the fans were rapt.
