10 Ridiculous Finishes To WWE And WCW World Title Matches

9. Clash of the Champions 1, 1988 - Ric Flair vs Sting For The NWA World Heavyweight Championship

The very first Clash of the Champions was billed to go head to head with the WWF's Wrestlemania IV. The show is highly rated among fans and features one of many quality bouts between legends Ric Flair and Sting. Back then, the matches ran long when the world title was involved and often featured a time-limit, allowing some matches to finish as a stalemate draw. The quality of wrestling between Flair and Sting was incredibly high in this confrontation, but the finish wasted everyone's time and ruined a classic match. After the 45 minute time-limit was called, the fate of the match was left to the five judges sitting at ringside to determine the winner. Patty Mullen gave her vote to reigning champion Ric Flair, while Gary Juster chose Sting to win. Sandy Scott voted for a draw and thus the match was ruled a draw. For some reason the other two judges weren't consulted at all, one judge called it a draw so it's instantly decided as a draw. If this is the finish they wanted, the judges weren't needed at all, they could have just left the match at the initial time-limit finish. The judge involvement gave hope to Sting fans, adding the possibility for the challenger to beat the champion, even if the match goes to time-limit. Apparently, the bookers decided against it anyway. Great match, awful anti-climatic finish.
