10 Ridiculous Things You Learn Binge-Watching WCW's Worst Year Ever
4. This Storyline Is Astonishing To Revisit
WCW hit the soft reset button in April by bringing Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff together to lead the 'New Blood'. More on that later. For now, just know that the company produced a PPV called New Blood Rising in August, and the build was f*cking mind-blowing.
Basically, Russo wouldn't tell wrestlers who was going over in a three-way bout between Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner and Goldberg. Come pay-per-view time, big Bill showed up mid-match (following a subplot-style motorcycle accident) but refused to take Nash's powerbomb "as scripted".
The announcers called him out on that, then credited Kev and Scotty for "improvising" a finish once Goldberg walked out. None of this helped the promotion. It was insider booking at its worst, and it's wild that anyone thought this would draw money or build interest in the product.
Russo's 'power mad booker' character followed on from the bizarre worked shoot (that turned into a real shoot) with Hulk Hogan at the prior month's Bash At The Beach.
