Finn Balor versus Bobby Lashley was yet again another one of those dream-match-like rivalries with main event potential that just never seemed to slip out of first gear.

Both of the wrestlers possessed their own set of in-ring skills that, while varying in style, were conceptually complementary to each other. To top it off, both performers frequently received a great deal of support from fans even when they were the losing end of affairs. Still, WWE never found a solid way to make Lashley and Balor mesh during their promos and physical encounters.

It didn’t help matters that Lio Rush served as a bit of a distraction from the overall feud leading up to 'Mania. Furthermore, neither man really got the edge on the other, as the Intercontinental Champion was hacky-sacked between Lashley and Balor about 6,000 times.

The big hurrah was yet another Intercontinental Championship bout at WrestleMania 35, which saw Lashley drop the belt once and for all to Balor after holding it for less than a month. How the feud ended wasn’t surprising, given its lacklustre execution, but the fact their match at ‘The Grandest Stage of Them All’ ended in less than five minutes certainly was certainly unexpected.
