Adam Cole is one of the top stars on the independent scene, and WWE has certainly taken notice. Over the past couple of years, there have been rumors that the company wants Cole for NXT, but the 27-year-old has thus far decided to remain in Ring of Honor.

That may be coming to a change. Despite the fact that 2016 was a great year for Cole - after missing much of 2015 with an injury, he joined Bullet Club, won the Ring of Honor Championship, and started competing for New Japan - that chapter in his life may be ending. According to reports, Ring of Honor wanted to extend Cole's contract, which is supposed to end soon, for several months in order to make up for the time he was on the shelf. Cole was reportedly very unhappy - is that because he wants to renegotiate, or because he wants to leave?

The writing may be on the wall, as Cole lost the ROH Title to Kyle O'Reilly at Final Battle. Now, it can be argued, there's not much standing in the way of Cole signing with WWE. Once he does, he'll quickly take his place as one of the top stars in NXT - and being as how he's so young, he can capture the brand's championship and hold it for a while before coming up to the main roster.
