In another instance of an injury or stint of time off away from the wrestling spotlight before far more serious than folks at home ever realised, the truth behind precisely what Keith Lee went through in 2021 caught just about everyone off-guard.

With The Limitless star being out for five-months from February to July due to reported "health reasons", after testing positive for COVID-19 in January and being off TV for a prior three-weeks, it was eventually revealed by Lee himself that this was due to something being "off" in his blood in the wake of his return match opposite Matt Riddle.

Lee was then diagnosed with inflammation in his heart, meaning he was forbidden to train or doing anything physical outside of a light walk. Making matters that little more terrifying, had Lee done any more than that, "there was a chance that I could just up and pass away", as he put it.

Thankfully, however, Lee managed to come out on the winning side during his "fight against death", with his inflammation eventually going down after multiple MRI scans during his time away. So, Lee was finally cleared for a return and made his long-awaited in-ring comeback on July 19, 2021.

But, for a while there, fans had absolutely no idea the former NXT Champion was fighting for his life away from the squared-circle.
