Bret Hart, not exactly thrilled with Flair's comments about him, duly returned the favour in his own autobiography, "My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling", released in 2008.

He took aim at the 16-time world champion for being arrogant and, ultimately, overrated by wrestling historians. This, of course, was precisely the same criticism Flair had made of him years earlier, and - honestly - neither of their arguments are particularly persuasive when you sit down and think about it.

Flair didn't do very convincing blade jobs, Hart suggested, which may have been true if you watched his matches through the eyes of an equally accomplished ring veteran, but - for fans anyway - there were few more awe-inspiring sights in wrestling than that of the Nature Boy wearing a crimson mask.
