The subheading for WhatCulture's recap of New Jack's 'Dark Side Of The Ring' episode was: "Prepare to be disturbed". That sums up this fan's thoughts when looking back on some of the wild man's ECW pay-per-view matches during an ultra-violent run.

Jack just never held back.

There was always something oddly intoxicating about hearing ‘Natural Born Killaz’ by Dr. Dre and Ice Cube blaring in the background as this crazed maniac carved up opponents and potentially broke his own legs performing awkward balcony dives. However, WWE's versions of the shows lack that, making his bouts a gritty curiosity for more than anything else.

Some of the steel chair and other weapon shots are f*cking scary to watch today, because they're so reckless and visibly injure wrestlers. New Jack was out of control, and Paul Heyman didn't exactly keep the dude on a short leash creatively.

ECW's approach was thus; 'Jack, do whatever the hell you want. Just make sure everyone comes back through that curtain!'.
