3. Vince Russo Wanted To Book Warrior vs. Goldberg

The wheels were falling off the WCW wagon long before the company had the brain wave to turn Bill Goldberg heel. At The Great American Bash in June, one of the only popular babyfaces the promotion had left went rogue, and fans were sickened. The negative reaction didn't seem to be down to a stellar heel turn, it was more because fans didn't want to boo Goldberg. Apparently, WCW at this time reached out to The Ultimate Warrior. Goldberg would have been a proverbial wrecking ball, once again blazing a trail through the entire roster and looking unstoppable. Only then would Warrior show up and promise to stop his reign of tyranny. In mid-2000, it's unlikely this match would have saved the company, but it definitely would have been a marquee bout. There was only one problem. As aforementioned, fans wanted to cheer Goldberg. There was an overwhelming feeling that WCW had dropped the ball with him by ending his win streak against Kevin Nash at Starrcade 1998. Due to this, a lot of people watching wanted to see him succeed and help carry the company. Turning him heel frustrated those fans, and a match against Warrior wouldn't have put that right.
