WWE's golden boy is far from unbreakable. He's had many major career injuries, including broken necks and torn muscles. Even when he is competing, John is usually working through some sort of pain. Which is exactly what caused 2013's triceps tear. He'd pushed his body beyond its limits. The tear caused a visible swelling in John's elbow, which ended up looking like some sort of baseball under his skin. The timing of this was pretty disastrous, with Cena scheduled to defend the WWE Championship against Daniel Bryan at that year's SummerSlam. Somehow, that still ended up being one of the best matches of 2013. Cena put Bryan over clean and then took time off for surgery. He should really have been out for about six months, but shockingly returned just two months later and won the World Title from Alberto Del Rio at Hell In A Cell. That's Cena for you - tough as nails. As you can see from the photos, the surgery was hardly a pleasant nip and tuck. John had his arm full on cut open and ended up stitched back like a piece of meat. He was well enough to tweet the photos of course, shamelessly stirring the Cenation's sympathy.
