10 Storylines WWE Has Already Messed Up In 2018
6. Braun Strowman Pursues The Tag Team Titles
With limited room on the WrestleMania card and Roman Reigns already anointed as the challenger for Brock Lesnar, WWE was left with a conundrum. Braun Strowman was the breakout star of 2017 and positioned as an unstoppable force at the top end of the roster on Raw. There was no doubting his star power, but there was also no doubting the crammed state of the WrestleMania card. Could they fit in a marquee singles match for Strowman? Who would he fight?
The solution came in one of the old WWE standards - burying the tag team division. It's a tried and tested WWE booking move to have main event level talents sweep into the tag division and destroy whichever team is on top. After weeks of teasing a potential partner, Strowman got his tag team championship match against The Bar at WrestleMania, winning the belts with Nicholas - a 10-year-old boy plucked from the crowd.
Strowman and Nicholas relinquished the belts 24 hours later on Raw, bringing this particular storyline to an end with a resounding whimper. If there had ever been any doubt that this scenario was created just to get Strowman on the WrestleMania card, that moment obliterated it. As a use of the Raw tag division, and as a use of Strowman, it was a waste of everyone's time.
