10 Strange Wrestling Debuts That Left Fans Bewildered

1. RETRIBUTION

Paul Heyman stated on WWE Countdown that he sees Brock Lesnar's rookie year - up to him beating the Rock for the WWE title at Summerslam - as one glorious, extended debut. By that criteria, RETRIBUTION have spent the past couple of months participating in one of the most perplexing debuts of all time.

Nothing about this group has made any sense. They're here to smash the WWE! So WWE offer them contracts to continue their now corporate-approved rebellion. They want to spread fear across the WWE Universe! So they give themselves names that make them sound like edgelords from Fraggle Rock. (Slapjack, T-Bar and Mace, oh my!)

Invasion angles are only as good as the stars behind them. The original nWo succeeded because you could genuinely believe Hall, Nash and Hogan thought themselves above Ted Turner's wrasslin' company. Tetsuya Naito was perfect as the leader of Los Ingobernables because the NJPW audience rejected him as the face of the company, so he was fully justified in disrespecting the promotion they loved. Meanwhile, RETRIBUTION are a bunch of petulant midcarders throwing a tantrum because they came up short in damn near every title shot and high profile match they had on NXT.

While T-Bar (groan) deserves props for trying to put the group over on Twitter, fans who simply follow WWE on television have been left baffled by a group whose threat level is less Bane and more Bulk and Skull.
