10 Strangest WWE Pushes

6. Jack Swagger

The stop/start booking mentality prevalent in WWE has been written about at length, and few men know more about it than Jack Swagger! Looking like a blue-chip prospect, Swagger was personally recommended by WWE Hall Of Fame announcer Jim Ross, who felt the 6ft 7inch wrestler had all the attributes to be a main eventer in the company. A legitimate athletic background seemed to go in Swagger's favour - this is still something WWE scouts look for today in newcomers. In early-2009, he won the ECW Title, only losing out at Backlash to a returning Christian, before being moved upwards in the WWE food chain to Raw. In 2010, Swagger won the Money In The Bank Ladder Match at Wrestlemania XXVI, cashing in on the next episode of Smackdown to win the World Heavyweight Title from Chris Jericho. It seemed like a really sudden ascent for Swagger, who didn't look nearly ready enough to hold the top title on the blue brand. Perhaps WWE handled the guy unfairly, only giving him a nondescript three month run with the title, and he has been treading water pretty much ever since.
