9. Big Lalo

Big Lalo! Okay, I had no idea what this pertained to when researching this feature. To me it just sounded like a ridiculous play on words, the big lay low. How is it possible to be big and lay low at the same time? It just can't be! Surely this was going to be yet another hilarious character, a comical big man who was not unlike Barry Windham's fabled 'Stalker' character.

Well, the truth is unfortunately a whole lot less interesting. 'Big Lalo' was actually the nickname of Armando Alejandro Estrada, former manager of Umaga, whilst he was working in OVW. He used the name whilst campaigning to be the 'Dictator of Kentucky', imploring people to 'Bote for Lalo', because he couldn't pronounce 'vote'.

Big Lalo, the Dictator of Kentucky? Count me in.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
