10 Strongest Champions In Wrestling Today

9. Pete Dunne (WWE UK/PROGRESS Champion)

Both of Pete Dunne’s WWE UK Championship matches with Tyler Bate stand among the best the company has produced in 2017. Their TakeOver: Chicago showdown was the most impressive, with both men establishing themselves as future megastars in 15 minutes of breathless action, before ‘The Bruiserweight’ walked away with the victory.

It’s impossible to pass judgement on Dunne’s UK Title reign at the moment, as he is yet to defend the belt, though he won it in the most impressive way imaginable. Fortunately, his position is bolstered by his reign as PROGRESS Champion, having mounted 10 successful title defences since winning the belt last November.

Dunne has successfully fought off challenges from the likes of Jimmy Havoc and Mark Andrews over these past 220 days, and while his matches are often rife with interference, he is presented as the undisputed top dog in the world’s most buzz-worthy indie. The British Strong Style/WWE angle has irritated some fans, but Dunne feels like Britain’s biggest star at the moment, and much of this is down to the pedestal he has been placed on in PROGRESS, and on WWE’s fledgling UK brand.
