10 Stupidest Decisions By WWE In 2006

9. Ending Edge's First WWE Title Reign Before It Really Got Started

Speaking of the Royal Rumble, it's ten years later and I still cannot understand why WWE decided to take the WWE Championsip off of the waist of the red-hot Rated-R Superstar, Edge, only to put it back around the waist of John Cena after a paltry three week reign. Just what motivated WWE to do this? Politics, would be my guess, because it certainly had nothing to do with the numbers. Indeed, television ratings had gone significantly up since Edge won the belt at the New Year's Revolution pay-per-view, with his and Lita's 'Live Sex Celebration' in particular getting people watching (among other things, I'm sure). No, I think Edge was relieved of his first WWE Title because he was only meant to ever be a transitional champion and Triple H was dead set on facing John Cena in an epic title match at WrestleMania. Oh, and there was the Hacksaw Jim Duggan punchline opportunity for the post-match (Lita is a HOOOOOOOOOO, you see). Couldn't pass that up, could they? Who knows how hot business would have gotten, had WWE not abruptly ended Edge's short but glorious reign. It would have been a damn sight more entertaining that Mr. Hustle, Loyalty and Respect's feud with Triple H, anyway, a feud which was based around the fact that Triple H could wrestle while John Cena (self-admittedly) could not. Baffling.
