10 Stupidest Decisions By WWE In 2006

10. Having Kurt Angle Vs. Mark Henry Main Event The Royal Rumble PPV

The 2006 Royal Rumble PPV was, on the whole, a pretty disappointing affair. The undercard was predictably rushed. Rey Mysterio's Rumble win came in the middle of the card and, while it was a nice moment, the match itself was underwhelming. Adding to that, Edge and John Cena's clash was so-so and with a frustrating ending. And then, the 'main event'... In name only, since the last match on the card was easily the worst of the entire show (some accomplishment, since Ashley Massaro was also wrestling in a singles match on the night!). The usually dependable Kurt Angle and the cumbersome Mark Henry had a nine-minute stinker of a match that had a lame finish and even lamer post-match shenanigans. After the Olympic gold medalist got the steel bolt-assisted schoolboy win (while holding the ropes), The Undertaker returned (after being gone for a month), riding a horse to the arena, and did his usual party tricks, like controlling the elements and causing the ring to collapse. The whole thing was a farce, and a rotten way to end what had been a pedestrian PPV. WWE should have put either John Cena versus Edge or the Rumble itself on last. Had the image of Rey standing victorious been the last one fans saw, reception to the event might have been warmer.
