10 Superstars WCW Completely Wasted
3. Shane Douglas
Shane Douglas had three contrasting runs in WCW. The first, in 1989/90, saw him as a member of the patently lame skateboard-riding Dynamic Dudes tag team. The didn't enjoy much success and soon parted aways. The second, in 1992/93, was a lot better. Again wrestling primarily in tags, this time he was out there with superworker Ricky Steamboat against the red-hot Hollywood Blonds.
After leaving WCW, he made his way to Eastern Championship Wrestling - later 'Extreme' - where he made himself a singles star, famously throwing down the NWA World Heavyweight Title and denouncing it after winning a tournament to become champ. An ill-fated move to the WWF, where he worked as Dean Douglas, was a career misstep but he soon found himself back in ECW and a big deal once more.
With ECW experiencing financial difficulties and increased uncertainty in 1999, Douglas decided to accept a deal with WCW. He returned to Atlanta to rid WCW of its 'cancer', Ric Flair, whom Douglas had a personal and very public rivalry with. It didn't really get over well, with some fans confused by the worked-shoot .
Douglas's Revolution stablemates Benoit, Malenko and Saturn left for the WWF without him in January 2000, leaving him to fend for himself. After that he move from random storyline to random storyline, lost in the shuffle and no doubt longing for the days when he was 'king of the bingo hall' (although he probably enjoyed cashing those fat WCW cheques).
