10 Superstars Who Could Take WWE Title Off Brock Lesnar
Ladies and Gentleman, Brock Lesnar. Your reigning, defending, undisputed, yada, yada, yada.
At 44, Rey Mysterio shows no sign of winding down his in ring career. He’s still a dynamo in the ring and has delivered career best promos in the build to last Sunday’s title fight with Brock Lesnar.
It would have been nice to see the veteran rewarded with a run as WWE champion but not many people gave Rey a fighting chance. The debate wasn’t could Rey beat The Beast, but how quickly would he lose, and how many F5s would he absorb in the process?
Sure enough, a deflating match saw Brock treating Rey like the clown he came dressed as. (Incidentally, new ring gear for a pay-per-view can be fun but who dresses as a clown for a deeply personal grudge match with the guy who beat up your son? Rey looked more Doink than Joker.)
Which means Brock Lesnar is still your reigning, defending, title retaining champion. With only Seth Rollins having beaten him in recent memory, who could plausibly defeat The Beast?
This list shows more respect for the brand split than WWE has, so there are no SmackDown stars here, but it allows for the possibility that someone might jump from “developmental” brand NXT.
10. Bobby Lashley
Two Intercontinental Title reigns can’t disguise how badly WWE have mishandled Bobby Lashley since his 2018 return. Wrestling the slow, WWE big-man style has left ‘The Almighty’ a much less exciting performer than he was in TNA, and the “Bobby’s sisters” segment was one of the worst in bits of TV in years. Not just WWE TV or even wrestling TV. We’re talking one of the worst things to be broadcast under the guise of televisual entertainment.
His best spell came with a manager, Lio Rush, who was removed from TV before a teased split storyline could pay off. The guy can’t catch a break.
What Lashley does have in his favour is a very impressive MMA record. It’s surprising WWE don’t steer into this more. They’re not above leaning on MMA credentials to lend credibility to other roster members. Lashley has made no secret of his desire to face Brock in the ring, telling TV Insider, “It would be the biggest thing on TV.”
Handled correctly, his MMA career could help make him a legitimate title threat.
