10 Superstars Who Deserved Better At WWE WrestleMania 34
9. Kevin Owens
A year ago, Kevin Owens was fresh off a run as Universal champion, was embroiled in a heated rivalry with Chris Jericho and on his way to another United States Championship victory. This year, he was in the midst of the most prominent storyline on SmackDown, a lead heel on the blue band and the main antagonist to commissioner Shane McMahon.
WrestleMania should have been a grand culmination of the months-long storyline in which Owens was featured significantly. Instead, he blended into the background. Partner Sami Zayn did the majority of the work, pounding on Shane McMahon and bumping around the squared circle for Daniel Bryan.
Like he has countless times in the months since Zayn turned heel and became the star of the devious duo, Owens faded into the background. He was an afterthought in the match and that is a role no one could have imagined the cocky, sarcastic bad guy assuming on the grandest stage in professional wrestling.
