10 Terrible Wrestling Matches (That Should Have Been Great)
9. Shawn Michaels vs. Mr. Perfect (WWF SummerSlam 1993)
What do you get when combining Curt Hennig with a bad back and Shawn Michaels before he'd hit his prime?
The answer: SummerSlam 1993's Intercontinental Title match. What should have been a classic we'd be waxing lyrical about for generations turned out to be a subpar 11-minute snore that would have been lucky to merit air time on Raw and did neither man justice.
A count out finish was the least of this bout's worries. Though it's easy to feel sorry for Mr. Perfect due to his aforementioned back troubles, he had already torn the house down against guys like Ric Flair in '93. Perhaps it's Michaels, who wasn't quite at "Mr. WrestleMania" levels of greatness yet, who deserves more of the blame. Perfect and Michaels failed to click. Their similar big-bumping in-ring styles proved too much of a clash, almost like both were unsure who should take the lead.
An expectant Michigan crowd sounded flat out bored just five minutes in, and that says it all.
