10 Terrible Wrestling Storylines With Great Matches
5. Kurt Angle Vs. Jeff Jarrett
Given how upset Kurt Angle understandably seemed when the events of his private life were made public a few years earlier, it was an odd move in 2011 when TNA began incorporating the real-life breakdown of his marriage into their kayfabe TV product.
The storyline essentially involved his ex-wife Karen, now married to Jeff Jarrett, doing her level best to keep the Olympic Gold Medallist from realising any ambitions left unfulfilled in his career (and, of course, ultimately failing).
Apart from the toe-curling awkwardness of watching art imitating life on screen, the storyline wasn't particularly entertaining, and it meant that a non-wrestler was taking up precious airtime that the likes of Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, and Jay Lethal would have killed for.
In the ring, though, Angle - as ever - delivered, sharing an excellent two out of three falls match with Jarrett at Lockdown, which was contested under what they referred to as "Ultra Male Rules" (but trust us: it was good).
