10 Terrible WWE Storylines One Tweak Away From Excellence

9. Jeff Jarrett - "Don't P*ss Me Off" (1999)

When Jeff Jarrett returned to WWE in 1997, he spoke with the same comforts that had given him the bravery to walk away in both 1995 and 1996. Jarrett's father Jerry had amassed enough of a fortune to keep him comfy (or, eventually, inspire him to start a promotion), to the point where 'Double J' could take potshots and Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels like it wasn't going to put a knife in his main event aspirations. But it did.

The worker's market was fertile in the mid-1990s as the wrestling war simmered before the boil but only as the boom hit for both sides in 1998 did the money roll in for everybody too. Perennial mainstream midcarders such as Jarrett weren't pulling in major downsides, but clipping the long locks, growing a goatee and swearing was all the rage to get one.

But he was still just Jeff Jarrett.

One Tweak: 'Double J' learns to love the midlife and doesn't go to WCW.

Your writer loves him, but he wasn't Stone Cold Steve Austin even if he was the storyline beau of 'The Rattlesnake's real-life wife. If he stays put as both excellent and over midcard hand in 1999, he enjoys an even better 2000 even if WCW (and, subsequently TNA) eventually beckons.
