10 Things You Didn't Know About Macho Man Randy Savage

8. The Name "Randy Savage" Came From Ole Anderson

When Savage started professional wrestling in 1973 during his offseason from baseball, he would wrestle as The Spider; which is a character based on Spider man. Only Vince McMahon from the late 1980's and early 1990's would have thought that was a good idea. Thankfully there was a booker for Georgia Championship Wrestling (GCW) that has a great wrestling mind and came up with a wrestling name that will forever live in infamy, Randy Savage. That man is no other than Ole Anderson; who would later would go on to become one of the founding members of professional wrestling's greatest factions, The Four Horsemen with Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard, his brother Arn, and J.J. Dillon. When Ole saw Randy wrestle, he was quoted as saying "he wrestles like a savage", and Randy Savage stuck right away. Macho Man would soon be added to the name thanks to Randy's mother who thought that was going to be the "next hot term".
